WD19TB Dock 100% fan speed for no reason

I have a new XPS 15 9500 with a Dell WD19TB attached.  All day long the fans on the dock go to 100% for a few seconds and then right back to zero.  They do it when the laptop is idle or under moderate load.  I have tried all of the profile option on the Dell Power Manager to no avail.

The temperature of the dock never exceeds 30 degrees so it's for sure not overheating.  It is sitting out in the open on my desk.  I have read lots of similar issues here and elsewhere.

Anyone have a solution?

Thanks!

I am having this issue too. This is, actually, a second iteration of WD19TB: first one was constantly dropping monitor connections. Its replacement arrived a couple weeks ago and has no actual problems, but now has this issue. It is a nuisance and keeps me wondering if sooner or later something's going to break down again...

What you describe seems to be also my problem. I have made the following video, do you think it's the same?

I have seen similar reports on this forum but no real solution from DELL.

Every few minutes, and sometimes not for hours, the fan on my WD19TB erratically starts with a chirp sound and then spins at a constantly-changing speed, then almost off, then full speed, then off.... a random number of times, like the thing is breathing. Sometimes it does it a lot of times (like at the start of this video where I also placed a small plastic bag hanging next to it to better show the fan speed), sometimes just two or three times.

Most of the times it goes to FULL speed one last time to then slowly comes down to a stop.

The dock is basically cold, the exhaust air is also not noticeably warm. The room is only 19 degrees C or less.

I have only one DisplayPort monitor connected to it, 1440p@60Hz, an Ethernet connection, wireless keyboard and mouse.

The Dock has the latest firmware 01.00.00.04 package. The laptop, a Dell XPS 9570, also runs the latest EC firmware 1.18.1.

The operating system is Linux. The discrete NVIDIA GPU is not in use. The laptop can be completely idling or not, it does not seem to affect this.

Mine isn't quite the same: it doesn't do this in such rapid bursts. The intensity is the same, but it generally goes off once every 10 minutes for about 5-10 seconds or so. The dock's temperature is also rather low, so it feels like something is messed up with the fan speed regulator. I wouldn't be surprised if under similar circumstances the fan would  switch on at a lower speed, but it seems as if it can only go at max...

My XPS 15 9500 has also high fan speeds at a very small workload, it's so annoying. I have send it back to the repair centre and they replaced some parts, but I still have the problem.

Do you have a solution already?

I have a WD19 that loses its connections with one or both of its connected monitors.   In the morning after unlocking my windows desktop, one or both of my external monitors will show an amber led instead of a "connected" blue led.

There is a Windows hotkey combination to reset just the GPU: Shift-Ctrl-Windows-B

I press it once, my working display(s) go black and most of the time my non-working display(s) will awaken.

My Dell WD19 Dock fan runs constantly, even when the laptop is turned off!   How about that?

This is crazy and in addition to it frequently "losing" its connection to external monitors.   The lost monitor connection is tolerable - I use Shift-Ctrl-Windows-B to reset the GPU.

I have just gotten this docking station from work, and it's so annoying blow every now and then. I am going to replace it tomorrow and if it will be the same, I will not use it at all. Such a big box with a fan for few ports doesn't make sense. I just need an external monitor and a power supply anyway.

"Have you tried turning it off and on again?" (IT Crowd, 2006) Unplugging and plugging back the power cable of the docking station solved the problem for me.

Mine too.  It is like having a colleague fitfully snoring in my office all day.  Extremely annoying.

Did anyone ever find a fix for this my doc is doing the same type of thing too. I thought it was due to  a dell /windows update on my dell laptop as next time I went on it was fine, but it has resurfaced a few week later
