I went to shut down my computer and I got a grey screen and it wouldn't shut down. I held power button and tried turning it back on and I got 3 yellow lights. I tried removing cmos, draining power and putting back in original ram so I could pull up the screen to say ram has changed. I get three yellow lights in slots 2/4 but no yellow lights in 1/3 in the memory slots. I can't get anything to come up on screen DP or HDMI. Please help.
I am not sure but I think it was 3,1 which would be cmos. But if I switch ram slots fro. 2/4 to 1/3 I get no blinking lights so I could be wrong on the color. I was using g skill ripjawsv 3600mhz. I have the original ram as well and put that back in but I can't get anything to come on the screen. Last time this happened I changed the frequency ram to the wrong on in bios and did a cmos reset and worked fine. For some reason when I tried shutting down I got a grey screen so idk what happened.
I got it to work by seating the ram in the 1 and 4 slot. Screen finally came up. I have my g skill ram back installed in 1 and 3 at correct timings. This is fing ridiculous. @Vanadiel do you know if the crucial compatibility list actually works? Also why was I getting bad cmos battery in ram slots 2/4 but no other light indicators when putting ram in different dimms. I have new cmos batteries coming.
agree it is a highly fastidious system in terms of memory and slots. no fast rule just got to find out what works and what does not. In my opinion not fun to poke this beast often who closes its eye on you. If it works now, enjoy it for a day or two before picking up courage to deal with it on another round.
@Vanadiel Why can't I put the memory back into slots 2 and 4. For some reason it won't boot on those. Did they burn out or something? I do have Dell technician coming for motherboard replacement

Besides three amber how many white led blinks do you have?
Blinking amber—Computer is experiencing a boot failure but the power-supply unit is functioning correctly.
The power-status light may blink amber or white according to predefined "beep codes" indicating various failures.
