17 R3, laptop CPU upgrade options
Hello.
I have noticed that my laptop's CPU is conspicuously absent from the list of Windows 11 accepted CPUs. I am running an Intel i7-6700HQ 2.6GHz and am of the sneaking suspicion that it will not ever be included. I realize that there are workarounds to force the upgrade but I'm concerned about future security patches being blocked if I go that route. I'm also loathe to tear apart the laptop just to see if it's soldered to the board. Does anyone know if upgrading (or just switching to an accepted CPU) is an option for this computer?

As already stated, the CPU cannot be upgraded to one that is "Officially" accepted.
But that does not mean you cannot do a fresh install with NO work arounds.
I installed W11 on an E5530 i3-3110M TPM 1.2 (10-07-21)
I have completed all security updates since install.
All device drivers installed and the system runs faster than it did with W10.

Correct. The 2020 m17 R3 never sold with that CPU. The 2015 17 R3 sold with the i7-6700/i7-6700H soldered on the motherboard. Correct, the 2015 17 R3 is not on the Windows 11 approved list =

Hello, no your CPU is soldered.
Also, I believe yours is the 17 R3, not the M17 R3.
