upgrade celerra to unisphere questions

I have two newer Celerra ns-120s.  They are running running Dart 5.6.49.3 and flare code 4.29.000.5.006

Have a bunch of questions.

1) I have Celerra replicator V2 running.  Is it OK to upgrade the target Celerra first and then upgrade the source at a later date?  Can replication run with two different versions of Celerra?

2)  I have the Unisphere service manager running and I see that it has the Celerra Upgrade Manager integrated.  Do I update the Celerra /Dart code first (to 6.0.36.4) before I upgrade any flare code?  It looks like this will work because the only error I can in the pre-upgrade health check is that the linux distro on the control station will be upgraded causing a longer upgrade time.

3)  Can i upgrade the Celerra at a remote location over a fast WAN link (fast 45 Mb/s link)?  I talked to one EMC engineer who was not sure.  He thought I would have to have someone onsite in case something goes wrong.  Since this is just a target and only used in case of disaster, I am not too worried if we have to open a ticket after the fact to get someone onsite.

4) And, while it looks like I can run this upgrade myself, is this something that requires a EMC support ticket and engineer on site?  I opened a ticket before I realized I can download the tools myself.   Just not sure what is officially supported by EMC.

Sorry bout so many questions.  Thanks.

Yes, DART and Flare are now customer upgradeable

Always upgrade DART first and then Flare

I haven tried it over a WAN but it should work if you have enough bandwidth.

Its going to drag a couple of hundred MB’s from the Windows box running USM to the Celerra – so if possible I would use a remote desktop session to a Windows server that is located in the DR site for the update. You don’t have to download the code twice – you can just put it into the correct directory for the code repository.

I think for replications the rule is to upgrade the destination first – but I would suggest to verify that with customer service

    Have fun

You might want to hold off a couple of days – DART 6.0.40.5 is just being released
