Just wanted to make sure I've understood everything correct before commencing.
I've got four SAS disks that needs to be setup as two 2-disk RAID1/0 groups for DB log & data storage.
To do this, I'll create two user defined storage pools.
I can understand why you'd normally create two LUNs balanced across SPs, per RAID group, but seeing as my RAID1/0 groups will only contain two disks, am I correct in assuming I should just create a single full-size LUN in each group, and have them balanced on SPs? Each storage pool will then have a single LUN added to them, and a single file system on top of that. If I were to create two half-size LUNs per RAID group, I'd imagine I'd hamper performance.
If I at a later point want to add new RAID1/0 groups to my pools, I'll extend the pool to include those extra disks. At this point, I should be able to extend the file system as well, right? Would'nt it be more optimal to have the file system striped across the two LUNs, instead of basically concatenating them together? Is there any way to do that, without recreating the FS?
If you use system defined pools, the AVM take care of the striping, for user defined pools this is the user job.
That's exactly the reason I'd want to do it myself. If I let the AVM handle my four SAS disks, it'll create two 1+1 R1/0 groups and stripe/slice across them - which is what I don't want as that'll mix my log & db data on the same physical drives. The only way I see to split them up is to manage the storage myself (except doing the trick of creating a dummy FS while only having a single R1/0 group to trick the AVM into using the disks I want it to use).
If I need to add disks later, I'll just have to migrate the data onto new groups then. Thanks!

if you create User defined pools on the Celerra, you have to take care about the management manualy.
