Optiplex 745 Fan Failure Error
So we have 5+ Optiplex 745's that were all purchased around the same time, and are all experiencing fan failure errors when booting up, but none of the fans have actually failed. I have contacted Dell HW support, they advised that we have a tech go out to every location, each computer is at a different location, to replace the heat sink fans. For the company this is not a viable option as these computers are 4+ years old, the overhead cost is ($179+Hardware)/PC to get the tech out, and even then, there is no guarantee that this will resolve the issue.
For a price of $200+, we mine as well purchase new workstations.
I wanted to see if anyone knows of a way to deactivate the fan error messages that display on POST? I hear a lot of talk about there being a hidden BIOS for tech use that has options such as these, using a separate BIOS hotkey (ex. F11 instead of F12). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I would advise that you flash the BIOS on all the OptiPlex 745 systems using the link below and check for issue resolution.

I read somewhere that earlier versions of the Optiplex 745 did not have a HDD fan installed even though there is provision for one. With that in mind, I've came up with a hack to get around this problem.
The solution requires connecting the PWM (yellow) wire of another fan to the HDD fan connector. In my case, I connected the PWM (yellow) wire on the CPU fan connector to the HDD fan connector (obviously the CPU connector has a fan connected). The HDD fan connector is located under the HDD, it's a five pin connector (same as the CPU fan connector). Just one wire connection needed.
