FS7600 concurrent connections?
Hi all
We're considering purchasing the FS7600 to replace some Samba servers currently serving files to users. The only problem seems to be the FS7600 is strangely limited to 1500 concurrent connections. This may seem a lot, but with our 20,000 users, it's not just a theoretical problem.
Statistics from the Samba servers show that across all nine of them, a total of ~1700 unique users are connected at peak ours. This may be even higher, but I don't know for sure - what I do know, is it's > 1500.
- What exactly does 'concurrent connections' mean in regards to the FS7600?
- Is this likely to change soon?

- How do you count connections? Is a connection counted per IP address or per share?
- Is this likely to change soon?
I find it somewhat strange to have such a low limit for an enterprise appliance…

The CIFS Active Client connections, would equate to the total tcp/ip connections. This is different than the number of CIFS shares you can create, which is 1024 shares.
Will it change soon? You should contact your EqualLogic sales person to get an NDA in place (Non-Disclosure Agreement), so that they can discuss any future design plans.
I don’t have a comment on the limit; but if you talk to the sale rep, you can bring it up.

With a single FS7600 (a.k.a, single appliance with 2 NAS controllers) that limit is 1500 CIFS active client connections in a cluster. To increase this, you would need to go with two FS7600 (a.k.a. 2 appliances with 4 NAS controllers), this brings you up to 3000 CIFS active client connections in a cluster.
