I'm trying to help a friend out by fixing their Computer. I'm not super knowledgeable about computers; but, I know more than her. Ok so here is the problem. When i got the computer it first turned on just fine. After about 20 mins it just shut off. It has a solid amber light on the front. When I push and hold the power button for about 10-20 sec it turns off. When I push it again it just turns a solid amber color again. One thing i noticed when it turns off the power supply light is a solid green but when I push the the power button the light on the power supply turn off. So that makes me think that its the power supply; but, if the power supply is dead would the power button stay a solid amber color? Is there a way of testing the power supply?
ok so i tried the jumper trick with the paper clip. The fans and such do not turn on. In fact the green light on the power supply stays on if i don't have the paper clip in and turns off with the paper clip in. So i'm assuming this is a power supply issue then.
