N5050 win7x64 BT/wireless 1702 "Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter."
Replaced the 1503 with a 1702, installed drivers, have wireless light, 4 bars signal. Shows 1 wireless device in DevMan, appears normal. Show "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" on the bluetooth.
What am I missing here? Thx
Jim

That's a sad commentary, seems like kind of a black eye for Dell I'd think.

The virus/firewall is Zone Alarm. I've tried loading several different drivers and let the OS do an autoselect after I deleted the wireless and bluetooth devices and their drivers in DevMan. Clearly I am not looking in the right place.
My wife has the same laptop but with the 1701 instead of the 1702. Hers has several additional BT and wireless devices in the tree than show in mine. A red herring? I wish I knew. This one came with the 1503 which was a surprise since she thought she ordered the same laptop. But since installing the1702 I have neither wireless or BT.

Jim,
Did you try disabling the firewall in Zone Alarm? I have see Zone Alarm block communications.
Since you deleted the adapters in the device manager, you'll need to download the drivers and save them to your desktop. Hopefully, when you right clicked on the adapter, left click uninstall, then told it to remove the software for the adapter. You then needed to restart your computer. When you logged back in, the new hardware wizard would try to install the adapter but fail. You would then need to install mthe drivers for the adapter to install properly.
The Dell™ Wireless 1702 WLAN Half Mini-Card works on 2.4GHz but I don't see anything about Bluetooth, unless your system has a seperate Bluetooth adapter, but it's not showing in your log. That could be because the adapter is not installed properly.
Start, control panel, network and sharing center, click on your connection, properties. Look for TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6 and click on properties for each. Make sure your settings match mine.
Go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag number, then select your operating system. Under Network, download and install the latest drivers.
Try these tweaks....
Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Click on advanced. Look and see if your adapter has antenna diversity. If it does, change it from Auto to Aux.
Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.
Try reading Bluetooth connection and pairing some items may apply and some won't remove all your Bluetooth devices and start over. If the Bluetooth devices are there form the previous adapter, pairing or locating them may be a problem.

Thanks Rick, I really appreciate the help.
OK, ZoneAlarm is disabled, and I have removed the wireless and bluetooth devices and their drivers yet again and installed the following drivers:
-1702.802,11b/g/n v. 9.2.0.412 assembly date 4/20/2011
-athrx.sys
-vwfibus.sys
-1702 Bluetooth v. 3.0 +HS v.6.33.1216.302 assembly date 12/15/2010
-btfilter.sys
-bthport.sys
-BTHUSB.sys
-fsquirt.exe
The check box for allowing the computer to power the device off is now unchecked. I have thus far been unable to get to the antenna management settings. I will look at the power management settings but really can't see that causing this disconnect.
My tray icon shows the wireless disconnected. However my control panel network connections show 5 bars, full signal strength. The card seems to be working but there is a disconnect somewhere.
My network status shows packets being sent but not received. IPv4/IPv6 is shown as Not Connected. DNS and IP addressing is set to Auto by default, I did confirm.
Bluetooth:
"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
This is really the only indication I have about the bluetooth aside from the yellow triangle warning icon over the BT icon in DevMan.
Do you think it is a hardware issue? The card did come from China.

Jim,
Did you install/reinstall the oeprating system on 11/23/2012? Or was this computer new on that date?
Did the adapter work then?

It is a new laptop. As supplied with wireless card 1503 which was working. That card had to be removed to install wireless/Bluetooth card 1702.

Jim,
Before you installed the new card, you unplugged the computer from the wall and removed the battery. Then pressed and held the power button for 30 seconds.
Then after the card was seated, plugged the computer in and started the computer.
When you logged in the new hardware wizard should have tried to install the adapter but failed. Then you install the drivers for the new adapter.

Hey Rick.
I have reinstalled the 1503 wireless(only) card which booted up and works fine. I think the Rx circuit of the 1702 was damaged, perhaps by esd. It is a very sensitive circuit and easily overloaded or damaged in handling and may have been bad when it got here. Due for the need for extreme sensitivity to low level signals I doubt it has any onboard diagnostics in that circuit so there would be no way to detect a failure except for there being no signal from the receiver, which is what we have.
I am going to order another card but think I will go with the 1701 since my wife has no connectivity issues with that one, and consistency with a known good configuration is a good thing.
Thanks for your help, it may be a couple weeks before the new card is here. Would you like an update at that time?
Jim
