It's the sensor for the room temperature. Where it is depends on the system model -- could be part of the mainboard, part of a fan assembly or part of the chassis.
Well, I have the Latitude E5570 and having the same issue on auto shutdown/hibernate for many times ...then I disassembly the mainboard, applied the thermal paste on the back of the CPU mainboard, where the 3 legs thermistor named QE3 and added a thermal pad 0.5mm thickness. Reassembly all and no more auto shutdown / hibernating for weeks.
