The internal optical drive stopped reading DVD but played audio. I bought an external USB optical drive and started to use that. I uninstalled the internal optical drive in Settings. I also have a USB hard drive connected used purely for back ups. The day after starting to use the USB Optical drive a problem with backup started. Backup was all files & folders and a Mirror image. Files and folders were OK but toward the end of the mirror image it failed saying it could not find the objective? Thinking there was an issue having USB optical and a disabled internal one I physically removed the internal one. Now the laptop has switched on Airplane mode and switched off Wi-Fi. Checking with the trouble shooter said a connection was loose. Checked but all OK. Switching on Wi-Fi does not work because Airplane mode is on and I cannot get Airplane mode to switch off. When I reinserted the internal drive and switched laptop back on it was all back to normal. However Back up still does not complete. Any ideas on what the issue could be? TMW Gray
