Suse 10.2 "modprobe i8k" prob
Howdy Com,
running opensuse 10.2 Kernel 2.6.18.8 on Inspiron 8600 I started dealing with fancontrol yesterday. I installed i8kutils as well as i8krellm in order to get some silent moments in my office ;)
Everything is up and running great but there is a serious problem remaining: modprobe i8k. Without this command the whole fancontrol-thing doesn't work, Xserver even freezes due to gkrellm-errors.
It seems like there needs to be the right timing to put "modprobe i8k" up. When calling it at boot-time e.g. from /etc/init.de/boot.local or /etc/sysconfig/kernel the volume-level-indicator appears on the screen and stays there just like as if the volume-down-button is being pressed permanently.
The weird thing is, this does not happen when calling "sudo modprobe i8k" via xterm from inside an x-session. modprobe i8k somehow needs to be done before xsession starts, as i8krellm is autostarted with KDE and immediately tries to access i8k.
But any time "modprobe i8k" is called before x-session is started, volume-level-indicator comes up and stays permanently on top of the screen.
Any ideas how to fix this?
