Alienware 17 keyboard stopped working

Service Tag:

I was in the middle of a game, and found the keyboard to be unresponsive after hours of playing using an XBox 360 controller. After some tests with a text editor, I shut down the system, then powered back on. The keyboard was still unresponsive. Rebooting, I am not able to get into the BIOS with keystrokes. I went to boot using a Linux distro and similar boot utilities, and the keyboard was unresponsive for these. This 'feels' like a hardware issue, 4 months after purchase. The keyboard lights up, but absolutely no keys are responsive.

Are the keyboards for this model known to be faulty?

    Hi,

First you can try a power drain, check the following video that will show you how to do it:

You can also try with an external keyboard and use it to reinstall the driver in Device Manager.

Let me know if you need something else!

Following this suggestion, I did a power drain and after reconnecting the cable there was still no keyboard functionality. I called customer support over lunch and a technician is going to be contacting me to replace the keyboard.
