This should only pertain to those with newly delivered systems running the GTX 660 OEM and concerns unacceptable framerates in games after a few minutes play. I received my X51 today. 3770 & GTX 660. Installed Battlefield 3 and after a couple of minutes of play the framerate drops to unplayable levels. Not what you expect from a £1000 machine out of the box. Looked on a few forums and found multiple people with exactly the same hardware reporting exactly the same issue. Some have Dell technicians coming out and sine have sent hours on the phone with Dell reps. So I looked around and found out about the modded 306.02 drivers and installed those. Slight improvement, but same issue after a few minutes play. I installed MSI Afterburner and set fan speed to 60%. Fans kick in and I relaunch BF3. Works fine... great even. Framerates are high and consistent even after an hour of continuous play on custom high/ultra settings. So... for those with this issue, it's likely the 660, but not necessarily a straight up hardware fault as simply increasing the fan speed fixes it. Possibly a driver issue, but certainly nothing to do with the card running too hot for the system as people are running 670's with acceptable temps. So that's the solution. Easy. My question is: do display drivers determine the default fan speed of graphics cards? If so, is that all that's wrong? I.e. the fan speed isn't adjusting enough when the card is under load?!
