Dimension E351 Help Please
I've got some problems with my E351 desktop, after following all the instruction below there is still the same message.
How do I go about deleting & recreating the partition?.
Here are a couple of things to try and resolve the error. The hard drive is not bad. It could be just a bad partiton.
First try To configure the computer so that it cannot start from a USB device, follow these steps:
Restart the computer. Turn computer off and turn it back on again.
During the startup process, press F2 to open the System Setup BIOS screen.
Press the down arrow key until Onboard Devices, and then press Enter.
When the "Onboard Devices" menu appears, press the down arrow key until the USB Controller is selected.
When the USB Controller menu appears, press the right arrow key to highlight No Boot, and then press . The No Boot option is selected.
Press .
Press the right arrow key repeatedly to highlight Save and Exit, and then press Enter. The settings are saved to the BIOS, and the computer restarts.
2nd things to try is to disconnect all usb devices.
Turn off the computer.
Unplug all external USB devices except for the keyboard and the mouse.
Start the computer.
When the operating system desktop appears, reconnect the USB devices.
IF THE OPERATING SYSTEM DESKTOP DOES NOT APPEAR OR THE ERROR CONTINUES, the connected USB devices do not cause the problem and you may need to restore the original operating system.
If these steps do not work and the restore partiton is corrupted you will need to possibly delete and re-create partitions, format the partition and then reinstall Windows.

If your personal files are all backed up on external media (eg CD, external hard drive), you can reset the hard drive to exactly the way Dell shipped it using PC Restore. Remember that all your files (don't forget email address book, in/out boxes, and browser favorities list), any software you installed, and all Microsoft updates will be lost when you use PC Restore.
Assuming you have XP, reboot and press/hold Ctrl as soon as you see the blue band across top of the screen before XP starts to load. Quickly press F11 and release both keys at same time. Follow the prompts.
When PC Restore is done, get firewall and antiviral software running. Then go directly to Microsoft update site and download/install all updates for XP, Office, Internet Explorer, etc.
