In order to provide any other suggestions as requested we need to know what model computer you are using and what operating system is isntalled. It would also be helpful if you could describe what problem you are trying to solve.

It sounds like you have some spyware on your computer. Instead of reformatting it you may want to run ad-aware.

If you have a antivirus program you proably (if you havent already) want to run that and see if it comes up with anything.  If that doesnt stop it, then it may be easier to just reformat as you were planning to do.

Also you might want to run msconfig (http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/) and see if there is a program in there that is running in the background that may be doing it.

I have a Dell 4100 933 with Windows ME, about 2 years old.

I have a problem with me internet system. a unwanted web site keeps ending up as my home page. I reset me home page in My Computer internet settings. its fine for a day or so and then it shows up again and adds a dozen web sites that can not be exited. I was planning to recover or reformat my system. I have reloaded internet exployer 2 times and cleared all of the history and cookie files I could find. Some times this link pops up in the middle of another site and takes over.

You've been home page hijacked. SpywareInfo.com has a very good article about the problem and how to fix it, which you can access by clicking here. It appears this sort of spyware-induced problem is becoming more serious. To see what I mean have a look at this.
