overclocking

ok so i know nothing really about OCing but i have read about how easily P4s with 800mgz FSB can be OCed...why cant a dell be overclocked? is it in the bios or the chipset or something???

Thanks,

I would also like to have the option to 'tinker' with various settings. Other manufacturers do not 'lock' this capability and give the consumer the right to choose the personal preferences. Is this Dell 8300 I paid £1600 ($2300) mine or is it just on loan?

I can relate this to, If I wanted alloy wheels on my car but the wheel bolts were sealed or rounded off by the manufacturer , would we all be happy? No, so why has my freedom to choose been denied?

No, I am not a trouble maker, marxist, or have a disturbed mind but a genuine customer (three times home plus business user) who would like a honest answer without being fobbed off about safety, invalidating guarantees etc.

Can I unlock?, If Not, can I fit a standard board which are advertised worldwide as performance overclocking motherboards? And lastly, who did kill J.R Ewing?

Thanks all for listening to my waffle and maybe a response......

IT is not advisable to Overclock the Processor as long as you are aware that the oc can fry the processor unless you provide extra cooling to the processor.

wow asraf what an incredible bad answer u know absolutely nothing and cant speak english...i am asking why and how dell locks it and if it is possible to "unlock" it...everybody asking the question about OCing OBVIOUSLY KNOWS that it causes more heat but i am getting an XPS...the fans on that are waaaaaaayyy beyond overkill and can handle a slightly OC'ed 2.8ghz P4 with 800mgz FSB so id be quiet and not mumble about nothing....im still looking for a real answer

I'm sure there's a way but I doubt we will ever find it.  I've read lots on how my p4 1.8 is a fantastic overclocking chip and I have no way to do it.

This is too bad for Dell.  Although so far I am pleased with the machine, having simple o/c abilities would make me much happier.  I've talked all of my friends out of purchasing a dell and my next system I'll put together myself.

Maybe, one day, if we are lucky they'll release bios updates that let us overclock.

Time difference a bit of a pain.

Still not an answer from a Dell Host.......

Can you really cook your processor without cooling? Mmmm Never knew that.

Do you really think I would be asking to unlock the Bios if I hadn't considered that possibilty. Enough said about those sort of comments to boost your post ratings. No spellcheck needed.

I would have thought there should be a main title 'Overclocking' on the main forum page for the curious.

I also am very pleased with my PC from Dell and consider it good value for money with excellent components, but would like that little bit extra.

    Comments Please.

It would really be nice if we could. I mean that can add like 6 months to the useful life of your comp.  I could prolly get my 2.4 to like 2.66.  That's 2 processors better!  I mean Dell was a good deal but I'd go with another manufacturer if the prices were close and I could overclock.

how did you install the new motherboard? someone on these boards said that wasn't possible on a dell. It seems to have worked for you...
