Power Supply Upgrade
I have a Precision 360 Workstation with a 5 year warranty (3 years left).
My problem is that I wanted to upgrade to RAID and eventually add 2 additional drives to my existing 2 SATA ones.
Unfortunately, with the existing power supply (305W) the RAID option is not possible - surprising for a "Workstation" which you would expect be able to support this. I need a minimum of 450W for everything to run smoothly - I have every slot on my pc used, 6 rear USB ports, 4 pci, AGP, 2 SATA (+ additional 2 SATA hopefully).
When I phoned support to order a new hard drive to replace one which recently stopped working, I asked them about this (I am in the UK). The guy told me that there wasn't a Dell upgrade for this particular power supply - I can't believe he said this. I asked him that if I bought a third party power supply and had to cut a hole in the back of the metal casing surrounding the rear of the PS, would that invalidate my warranty. I was told that this would be the case.
Does anyone know of a 3rd party power supply (450W or bigger) that will fit this case - as you look at the back of the tower, the power supply connection is in the top left area - directly under the fixing screw. The power supply needs to be without the on/off switch or any other protruding parts.
Please, there must be someone else that's been in this predicament. I don't want to have to invalidate my warranty, particularly as things are just starting to go wrong.
