Print screen key

How do I get the print screen key to work??? Ive tried shift+print screen as well as alt+ print screen and ctrl+print screen nothing seems to work. I was looking to print my desktop.

    Ctrl+Print Screen will capture the whole desktop in Windows.
    Alt+Print Screen will capture the active window.
     
    Once you have made your capture, open Paint (or your imaging software) and paste the image. Save as a JPEG or GIF.

    The print screen key used to work in the old DOS days.

    Use the instructions from mpo above to do it in Windows.

    I use a program called Hardcopy.  It's freeware.  Does the Paint thing automatically so it works just like DOS.  See http://www.hardcopy.de/hardcopy/english/
