PSU Replacement

Hey All,

Apologies if this is in the wrong thread, but this evening I had a problem with my Dell XPS 420. When I turn it on, the unit keeps turning on and off even after the 10 second reset.

When I push the power button the system tries to turn on as normal, but then it shuts off. The process keeps repeating. On, Fans make noise, Off. On Fans make noise, Off.

Research revealed that this is a PSU issue. I am looking into how to replace the PSU in this unit. Are there diagrams of any sort to show me where the correct cables would go inside the unit?

Dell never published a diagram showing the location of the power supply connectors,

Only the XPS 420 owners manual was published, pages 103 & 160 to 167 should help.

    ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_xps_desktop/xps-420_owner%27s%20manual_en-us.pdf

Note, All the power connectors are keyed to fit into the appropriate sockets, to avoid mistakes.

A hint: Both the 24-pin P1 and the square 4-pin P2 connectors have catches that must be first released to enable the power connectors to be removed from the motherboard.

    Bev.
