    jlethert,

Attach an external monitor to the VGA port on the back of the system. Then using the Fn-F8 key combination, toggle the video signal to the external monitor and see if the display is good on the external monitor.

Then, contact Dell Technical Support at:

    mobile_support@dell.com

Please send a detailed description of the problem, and your Service Tag number.

my inspiron has a red tinge as well.

the dell rep said "chuck it" - as if its the monitors fault.

true, when i hook up an external monitor - it works well - but the laptop's display is still red.

now, i've checked the "cables" as best i can - thats a visual check - what equipment would i use to check if there is a faulty cable / wire?

    thank you
