Keyboard beeping

I have a XPS L702X laptop that is about 3 years old. It started making a beeping sound for the first time yesterday every time I press a key on the keypad when typing. It has never done this before. It makes this noise with the speaker muted and all sounds set to none. I have looked all over the place trying to find a way to turn off this annoying noise. Can anyone please tell me how I can shut this irritating noise off?

    Hi grumpyeyore,

I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

    1. Switch off the computer.
    2. Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
    3. Remove the battery from the computer.
    4. Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
    5. Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Also, I would suggest that you run the diagnostics on the computer after the above steps by following the steps mentioned in the video below and check if there is any issue with the hardware on your system.

Please let me know the findings.

    Hi grumpyeyore,

It seems like the some key on the keyboard maybe pressed. Please check if there is any particular key pressed.

Also, please check if the keyboard works in the operating system.

Thanks, Dell-Ravi BC for your quick response to my problem. Unfortunately doing the hard reboot did not solve the problem. grumpyeyore

Some of the models have a setting in BIOS for keyboard beeps. Here is a way to disable beeps in general in Windows.

    1. Open “Control Panel\System\Hardware Tab\Device Manager”.
    2. At the top click “View\Show hidden devices”.
    3. Go to “Non-Plug and Play Drivers” and  double click “Beep”.
    4. Click the “Driver Tab” and change “Startup Type” to “Disabled”.
    5. Restart.
