Microphone doesn't work
It looks like I have the same problem. I have an Inspiron E1505 notebook with Vista operating system. The built-in and plug in microphones don't work. The SingTel "show pop up" box is checked. I do not get a pop up when I plug in the external microphone. DELL tech support is no help. I'm not a computer wiz so I need specific instructions if you have a way to fix this.
I have had this computer for only a few months and this is the first time I tried the microphone. It has probably never worked. Thank you for any help.

Did you get your system working? Yes you do need to reinstall the drivers which you can do from the dell website under driver downloads.learning_as_I_g

You can run the diagnostics. Drivers are easy to reinstall or repair through the device properties. The diagnostics is easy to run also. Good Luck!- I am having a similar problem. My E1505 came with XP and the microphone worked just fine while I used it with SKYPE. However, since upgrading to Vista it no longer works. Many drivers needed to be upgraded on the system and I have done so, but this one just doesn't work. I have gone through the tech site, downloaded drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled, you name it. Just still won't work.Any other suggestions out there on how to get my microphone to work with Vista?
I am having similar problems with my microphone, I bought my computer with Dell only few months ago, I now bought the USB desktop microphone to be able to use skype, but I can hear people, they can not hear me.
I have tryied all, it is really driving me mad: the microphone is not in mute, I went to control panel, I did the recording voice and it is fine. All volume levels are adjusted. I just can not see where the problem is.
Does anyone that had a similar experience can help me?
Thank you
