Did you also run spyware scan?
When you tried to get wallpaper back, did you right click a blank area of the desktop ,select properties, and click the desktop tab to try to select any wallpaper?

Try using "Last Known Good Configuration"

If that doesn't work, use restore point, (I am assuming you are using windows XP in a stand alone environment)

    Then
RIGHT click a blank space on your desktop

    Left click Properties

You should see tabs at the top of the dialouge box. They are: Themes, Desktop, Screensaver, Appearance, Settings

Click the Desktop tab, LEFT click anything under the word "Background"

    LEFT click "Apply"
    LEFT click OK

Were you able to find a solution to this problem? If so. . .what was it?

I've had the same issue for some time now. . .and needless to say. . .it is quite annoying.

    Any advise would be appreciated.

    Thanks
