Why is Tech Support NOT Knowledgeable?
Related to my response to kewl0123 on “Blurred text, images Inspiron 600m”, why does Dell have such ineffective Tech Support (TS) staff. To go into my experience a bit more, got my 600m almost four weeks ago. From day one, the image looked unclear/blurry/blocky. Called TS first time – India. Hard to understand. Said it was a software problem. He was hardware support. When I challenged him, I was put on hold and I got disconnected. Called TS second time (different day) – Panama. Friendlier. Send a screenshot to him. Said it might be a bad video card. Ask me to send my laptop back. Dell replaced System Board because video card is integrated. Got laptop back. Still blurry. Called TS third time. Talked to outsourced company in the Philippines. Very friendly. Easy to understand. Worked with me quite a while but got put on hold and was disconnected. Didn’t call back. Called TS fourth time – Panama. They said they will send a new replacement system. Got that unit and still blurry. Finally, co-worker told me about Dell Forum. Logged on. Found similar topics and usable responses. In 1 minute, I changed my Display setting DPI and picture is now clear. My question is why didn’t Dell Tech Support (four different ones) not figure this out? Wasted my time. Wasted Dell’s money in shipping, etc.. Doesn’t help when you have to wait for 20 minutes before TS picks up.
Recommendation: Dell, have all TS get better training, and require them to read through Community Forum. They might learn something. Also, pre-screen English Speaking support to make sure they are knowledgeable, understandable, courteous and patient (not snippy).
