wireless problems
Hi, I have a dell inspiron 1501. My WIFI is not working. When I try to turn it on, nothing happens. I tried to turn on the NUMLK, CAPS & SCROLL LK to see if it was just the light that didn't come on, but the lights for those all work, except for my WIFI light. It was working yesterday, but today it doesn't! Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? Your input will be greatly appreciated!
- BIOS is the Basic Input Output System. You can get to it by pressing F2 after you turn on the notebook. You should see a message stating " Press F2 to enter setup " or something to that effect.Press F2 after the notebook is turned on ( Blue Dell Banner Across the top of the screen ). This should take you to the BIOS set-up screens where you can check to make sure the Wireless is enabled. And hotkeys are enabled. The actual verbage may vary by model.Pressing F12 will take you to the " One Time Boot Menu " where you can select to boot into the diagnostics.Do any of your hot keys work? Like for volume control or screen brightness? If none of them are working do you have the " Quickset Utility " installed? if you do not have Quickset installed install it and everything should then work.pcgeek11

The Dell Quickset Utility doesn't make those things work???!!! It puts an onscreen display of what your doing....Ilovelucy22

Do you have the icon near the clock for the wireless utility? Press ctrl and F2, the light should come on. If not check in Network connections (control panel) to be sure the wireless card isn't disabled. If it is, right-click the connection and then enable. Even if there is no wireless connection available that light should be on.- Ok, I did the F2 thingy and everything is enabled...including my hot keys. Then I did the F12 thing and ran some test. I received the following errors:Error Code 0142Msg Error Code-2000-0142Msg: Unit0: Drive self test failed status byte=79Error Code 0F00:137BMsg: IDE device failed: Blank media or no media present in optical drive. Test requires media with data (Resource CD, Installation CD)Error Code 0F00:065DMsg: IDE device failed: The Self-Test failed the read portion of test.Other than these errors..everything else passed. I had even ran a test for the keyboard and that passed also. But still, I can use the Fn key for anything and it works, but it still does not work for my WiFi to be turned on.Thanks so much though for all your help!
