Wrong BIOS flashed
I have a Inspiron 8200 note book with a Latitude C840 bios vA06. I am not sure what happened but one day I was hooked up to a switch box and working. I went on leave for two weeks and came back and the monitor had a message stating (power manager) settings out of range. The monitor itself would not come on. I asked around and, of course, nobody touched the system. When I took the notebook off of the switch box it worked just fine. I looked at the video adapter and it said C840. Before it was a Nvidia GForce4 440 Go. I went to the Dell site and downloaded the flash bios for Inspiron 8200 vA11 and flashed my bios. After booting back up a message came up stating that the computer needs to be removed from the docking station or it will shutdown. I removed it and rebooted it. As it was rebooting I went into setup and looked at the options for docking stations and it was disabled without the option to enable it. So I knew I messed up I downloaded the flash bios for the Latitude C840 and tried to flash the bios again with that. As it was booting up a message came up stating "Error! This utility does not support this system." How could I either flash the bios with the C840 vA06 utility or fix the docking station problem? Please advise.

I am docked to a C dock docking station, the display adapter before leave was a Nvidia GeForce4 440 Go, and a C840 after I returned from leave. My machine was not left on which means on of the other administrators had to access the box, or SMS could have loaded the wrong updates/patches. I did find a way to get the Bios back to what it was (Latitude C840 v12). I had to order resource disk to get the display adapter back to Nvidia Geforce4. Thanks for your help/concern.- Hi James You Are Going To Have To Do a Factory Default Bios Upgrade Which Will Restore Your Inspiron 8200 Back To Bios A00 ,Just Turn On Your Inspiron 8200 When Splash Screen Is Up And Showing,Press Alt + F While Going Though POST Splash Screen. Then Press The Esc key. Then Press The Enter Key To Save Changes. After That Is Done Download The Latest "INSPIRON 8200 BIOS" And You Good To Go. Email Me If This Worked At Michaelreyes7@msn.com .Thank You.-Mike

- That is not correct. Use the Downloads tab above and tell it you are a C840, get the a12 BIOS, and use the /forceit switch to get it to take. http://www.bay-wolf.com/bios.htm#5 You have to be a Latitude to use a C-Dock.

MichaelTR,
Thanks for the response...it did work. I found out that the bios for the video adapter was changed due to a patch that was installed on my system. Not only did it change my video adapter but it changed a lot of my registry settings. I went through H.E.L.L. trying to get it fixed. But, I finally got it working. The first thing I did after getting my system up and running is create an ERD. Again I am up and running and I am very appreciative of all of the responses.
