simply amazing. i have been using my new Dell 2005fpw for 2 weeks. last night while i was browsing suddenly the PBP function turned on by itself. hmm, odd i think. i go into the menu and shut it off. few minutes later the PIP function turns on by itself again. what the heck is going on i think. i shut it off in the menu option. an hour later the Brightness/Contrast box pops up, and when i hit menu to get rid of it the selector box starts skipping between Exit and Brightness. no way to shut it off. at this point i decide to turn off the monitor (i'm thinking maybe it overheated?) and guess what? THE POWER BUTTON does not work. i cannot turn off the monitor. i finally unplugged the power cord and went to sleep - thinking that maybe it was a heat issue and it would be fine in the morning. just tried it a bit ago and the problem is still there;
**power button does not work (only way to shut off monitor completely is by unplugging it.
**hitting menu causes the system to skip between the Brightness/Exit choices
**randomly the Brightness/Contrast window pops up - no way to shut it off, goes off by itself after about 30 secs.
am i hosed? anyone ever experience a similar problem?
to make matters worse i purchased this monitor through eBay. i do not have a Customer# or Order#, but I do have a Service Tag that i transferred to my name when i received the unit. when dell pulls up the Service Tag they state they cannot see the Warranty info on it, and I need to give them a Cust# or Order#. so far the seller on eBay has not responded to me. what are my options;
can dell repair the monitor and charge me for it? i really dont care at this point if i have to pay, or about the warranty, i just need to fix this darn thing :(
Ignarus, $500 on ebay is nothing. More Ferraris (not toy Ferraris - real $100,000+ Ferraris) are sold on ebay than through any dealership or sales channel in the world. If someone can buy a black Enzo for $1.3 million on ebay, then it's not hard to imagine spending $500 on an LCD monitor.
i'm trying to find out - will Dell service a purchase not made through them? at this point i don't care about paying for the repair. i will gladly pay for the repair. will Dell do that?
Dell does not repair monitors. They replace them under warranties. In order to get the warranty you will need to have the monitor transferred into your name by contacting customer care at 1-800-624-9897 and you will need a customer or order number from when it was purchased.
problem solved - i must say Dell technical help (after hearing so many horror stories) handled my issue beyond anything i expected. i was shipped a new monitor, got it next day air, and its perfect. shipping the old one back tonight. a big KUDOS to dell for really standing behind their product.
