P2720DC, daisy chain not working

Hi,

Just bought a P2720DC but not able to get daisy chaining to work properly.

Configuration:

  • Lenovo ThinkPad E595
  • Dell P2720DC Monitor
  • Dell U2412M Monitor

The ThinkPad has a USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 port with DisplayPort support (source: https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_E595/ThinkPad_E595_Spec.PDF). The specs don't mention the DisplayPort version or whether it has MST support, but I would assume so as the laptop is quite new.

I have connected the devices as follows:

  • ThinkPad -> P2720DC (USB-C to USB-C) -> U2412M (DisplayPort Out to DisplayPort In)

For the P2720DC, I have set MST on by going to Menu -> Display -> MST -> On.

Problem: Only the P2720DC works. I don't get any image on the U2412M, instead it displays a message "There is no signal coming from your computer...". I have selected the DisplayPort input manually, but there is no image.

Curiously, if I connect my ThinkPad to a Lenovo ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen 2, and the dock to the P2720DC using DisplayPort, daisy chaining suddenly works. Just to be clear, the following setup works:

  • ThinkPad -> Dock (USB-C to USB-C) -> P2720DC (DisplayPort Out to DisplayPort In) -> U2412M (DisplayPort Out to DisplayPort In)

However, I don't want to use a dock so this setup is not sufficient for me. I'd like to get daisy chaining to work by using USB-C.

Any ideas what could be the problem? All help is greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Niklas

    Managed to fix it myself.

In case anyone else has the same problem, for some reason Windows 10 didn't use the second external display automatically. I had to do the following:

    1. Go to display settings
    2. Select the external display that is not working (it was greyed out for me)
    3. Scroll down to the Multiple displays section
    4. Click Extend desktop to this display

Sorry for the unnecessary post. Take care!
