Restoreing VADP from a tape clone

Hello all,

before I engage chat support I thought I would post this question on the forums.

I'm running networker 8.0 sp2, 1 datazone, 2 sites. 4 servers total.

Site 1 contains the networker server

a Datadomain 620 which replicates all backups to site 2

a VADP proxy/storage node that backs up to the data domain as well.

Site 2 contains

A physical storage node connected via fiber to a tape library. THe tape library is the destination for the clone of the Data domain savesets.

a DD640 that recives all backups from site 1

a VADP proxy/storage node.

Here is the issue. I can restore just about anything I want from the data domain boxes, but we recently wanted to decommission a large VM and went to test the restore. it cannot restore from tape.

Here is what I did to test it.

I created a simple test machine (base install of Linux to use for a quick test).

I was able to back it up and restore it from data domain with no issues.

I cloned the saveset to our tape library

I went into the data domain and marked the backup as "suspect" and attempted a restore of the saveset.

The restore job runs, the VM is registered. it even mounts the tape that is required however it never starts streaming the tape.

The vmhost that the VADP proxy is connected to is connected to our SAN via the same fiber network as the tape library, but there is not "pass through" enabled to grant the VADP proxy a direct connection to the tape library. I am making the assumption that this is my issue.

Does anyone have any input on this issue?
