New to this, sorry. Cannot connect, provider says ethernet adapter not working need to re install, need disk to do so. IPCONFIG in dos says media disconnected, but device manager says Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller is working properly, but it is not. Sorry, but am not sure how to reinstall on a computer I can not access (am using son's computer) If anyone can help I would be grateful, sorry this is so confusing, but I have never done this before. Thanks in advance.
As you have mentioned the service provider checked and found the Ethernet adapter not working. So I believe this is broadband (router based) internet connection. If you found that Ethernet card is showing working in Device manager than do following -
- In DOS C:\windows\> ipconfig /all
if you are connected through modem/router to service provider for internet than should show some IP address. And if you are not connected than will show different thing.
- Check the ethernet cable from Modem/router to PC back at Ethernet card. If card is working and connection is LIVE than green light will be blinking at back of card.
- Put the cable end to Modem/Ethernet in different port
- IF you have another PC next to this one, then test if it can connect to Internet using your service provider's modem /router. That proves the Router/modem is healthy.
- Reset the modem (there is small button at back or bottom of the modem some where (see in literature) and reboot your PC and check again.
- Using different PC which can connect to Internet - go to Dell Support site and Put your PC (having trouble) Model and Service Code and download the driver for your Ethernet Card on C:\download on different PC. Than you can copy driver on Flash drive or Floopy drive if it is small size and load on your PC (having trouble).
- Uninstall the current Ethernet card driver and reload from the fresh downloaded from the location and see if it can solve your problem.
We would need to know more info to help. We need to know what model computer, operating system, network setup, type of broadband connection--cable or dsl and if you have a router & modem or just a modem. The name of your Internet provider might help, too. The device mgr. is recognizing the network card and it is in working order. It does not assess the connections. The card is probably not properly connected to your broadband modem or your router. Did you just reinstall Windows or make any other changes to your computer? Has this connection ever worked?
