I have no IP address
I have a Deminsion E310 with Windows XP Media edition that it came with. It's a couple years old. I started it up a few days ago and it wouldn't connect to the internet. I found out that there is no IP address. When I do ipconfig in cmd.exe it says Windows IP Configuration and nothing else. This has happened before but I don't remember how I fixed it.
- You can get the same information and also do a release/renew (repair) if you open Network Connections, right click your wireless connection, click on Repair to attempt to get a new IP address or click on Status, then on Support and then on Details to see some of the information normally shown in an ipconfig output. What does that tell you?Steve
- What does the following statement mean:"Besides My Network Places, because it is check marked there... :This makes no sense to me, please explain.If you open Network Connections, select the connection you are trying to use, and select Properties, is Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the list of items and does it have a check mark in the box?Steve
- Try the following. Download the latest drivers for your system from the following site and then copy these to removable media and eventually to the hard drive of your E310.Then, on the E310, boot into Safe Mode, open Device Manager, expand the listing for Network Adapters, select your ethernet network adapter and uninstall it. Then boot into Normal Mode and run the file you downloaded to reinstall the network drivers. Let us know if that fixes the problem.Steve
