Inspiron with 8255x adapter sharing internet connection with xbox live - problems

I am trying to share the internet connection from my Inspiron 8000 (connected via wireless linksys router/card) running Win2k and with an intel 8255x network adapter with my Xbox for Xbox live.

I successfully setup Internet Connection Sharing with this laptop and another laptop connected to each other via an ethernet cable.  When I connect the ethernet cable from this Inspiron laptop to the xbox (turned on) it still says the connection is unplugged and no lights are on the network adapter socket.  When I coonect the Inspiron laptop to another laptop the ICS works and the network adapter socket lights turn on.

I also successfully connected another inspiron 8100 laptop with windows XP with the xbox and was able to share the internet connection.

Is there any setting or new driver for the intel 8255x network adapter on the Inspiron 8000 (running Win2k) so that it will detect being plugged into the xbox?

Thanks but it didn't help.  I've been using my Inspiron 5100 to accomplish the same thing since it works fine.  i'd prefer to use the inspiron 8000 but i can't figure out the problem
