Internet connection with Linksys wireless PCI card
I just received a new Dell Dimension 2400 (running XP) and have successfully installed by palm pilot, the printer, the webcam and have one major problem.I can't get onto the internet. I have a wireless card which I have tested in my old computer (running 98) and it works so it is not the wireless card. I have installed and uninstalled the driver, I have spent hours onthe phone with linksys, I have turned on and off the modem and router. I have spent hours on the phone with Dell. All to no avail. When I get into the PCI configuration card utility, I can click on connect and the system connects for about 20 seconds and then goes out. I also tried disabling the antivirus programs, that didn't work. I also made sure that the firewall wasn't on.
I am wondering if there is something, perhaps some software that Dell loaded on the computer that is interfering with this. Has anyone had this experience? I see from some of the posting that there are similar problems but I'm not enough of an expert to know the terminology (ie, I am a novice!).
Also, I was thinking about deleting the Broadcom Program management software but I don't know what it does. I know it has to do with the local area network. I actually did try to delete it and the system wouldn't let me saying that "the install script engine on this machine is older than the version required to run this setup (or uninstall in this case).
Help!
Liz
