I am using Inspiron 8600; TrueMobile 2300; Motorola cable modem.
When using wireless internet connection – the wireless icon says Excellent Connection.
When using fixed cable connection the – the connection icon says 100 mbps.
Checked Device Manager – did not find any yellow / red warning marks.
Tested Broadcom Advanced Control Suite (Broadcom 440 x 10/100 Integrated Controller) – On Chip CPU – failed the test – unsupported test for BCM 440 X. Network Test – can not retrieve link status.
Tried IP properties repair function – I believe it said that IP could not be found.
Tried to ipconfig/release & ipconfig/renew – No operation can be performed on wireless network connection while it has its media connected.
I can not ping any URL but when ping 192.168.2.1 got response.
If it's Network Adapter's fault, is it covered by Dell's warranty?
Any help will be appreciated, waranty Thanks, John
Sounds like the 2300 is not talking to the Motorola modem. Power off the modem and the 2300. Wait a couple minutes, power the Motorola up and let it negotiate with the ISP and when the LEDs show it is fully connected, then power the 2300 up and let it negotiate with the Motorola - when the 2300's leds show it is connected to the modem, then try the internet, wired. If this works, try wireless. Oh, and the 2300's Internet port needs to be connected to the ethernet port on the Motorola.
I tried shuting down the router and the cable modem, then turning them back on in the procedure described above. Actually, I did it several time. It did not work. I still have the same issues.
I again tried the repair function at Local Area Connection Status / Support. The repair function failed - it says Renewing the IP address failed. I tried the ipconfig/release & ipconfig/renew. Then the following message comes up: No operation can be performed on wireless network connection while it has its media connected.
Sounds like your wiring sequence is wrong. Try using the instructions that came with your router and start all over. Here's a basic wiring sequence: Cable Wire coming in>cable modem. Ethernet cable out from modem to router's modem input>second ethernet cable out from router to network card in main computer OR alternately--you can use a wireless connection to router. A hard wire connection is better and easier to set up.
Make sure: 1)Firewall is off. 2)On the Authentication tab in Network Connections properties, make sure IEEE is NOT checked. 3)Disable any Firewall software like Zone Alarm. 3)Do not use the Local Area Connection repair or the Network Wizard in XP. 4)Disable and don't use Internet Connection Sharing. Use the software that came with the router to manage and repair the connection.
The wiring sequence is correct. I've used the instructions that came with the router, I've also tried the ones that came with the modem. Both wizards can not find the connection. Althought the network icons, both fixed / wireless show excelent connection.
I do not think I've turned off the firewall. I'll also check if IEEE is not checked.
I'm having the same problem. Just got my laptop today (Inspiron 8600) and I also can't connect to the internet, even though I check my LAN and it's connected, ran ipconfig release and renew, but I get the following message when renewing:
An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection: unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.
No operation can be performed on Wireless Network Connection while it has its media disconnected.
Now I disabled my wireless adapter and get the same message without the No operation can be prefromed on Wireless...
