Sharing Internet Connection over Wireless

I recently installed wireless hardware in my Desktop (Win2000) and added a Linksys PCMCIA Notebook Adapter to my Inspiron 1100. In addition I installed a Linksys Wireless Print Server on my Laser printer. After steep learning curve I was able to get everything talking, i.e. laptop to desktop and vice versa and both computers printing to the laser. One item that I was not able to accomplish was sharing the internet connection on my desktop with my laptop. Could someone provide or point me to a step by step tutorial on how to accomplish this? Desktop is running win2k Inspiron XPhome.

Thanks,

What kind of internet connection are you trying to share (dialup, cable, dsl)?  How is your network currently set up (i.e. does it connect through an acces point, a wireless router, or directly ad-hoc mode of the network cards)?  Have you looked at the tutorials available at www.homenethelp.com ?

I am trying to do the same thing.  So far haven't been successful.  I think my problem stems from using ICS.  ICS implements DHCP and NAT and is conflicting with the wireless router I am  using to connect my system together .  I think I have to use static addressing to make it work.  It will be something to check out if you elect to use ICS.

If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks..ji

    jinskeep,

Please note that you may or may not have a different problem than the original poster.   It gets very confusing to try to help solve different problems in the same thread.   Start a new thread for your problem.   You cannot run ICS and a router on the same network since you will have 2 DHCP servers running and they will conflict.  The router is meant to provide the services of internet connection sharing, so you should disable internet connection sharing and consult the documentation that came with the router to set your network up properly.

I am trying to share a dial-up connection. My network is set up as an ad-hoc network. It consists of a desktop with a wireless USB adapter, an Inspiron notebook with a linksys network PCMCIA card and a linksys wireless print server. Currently, when dialing from the desktop I get the following error message:

One or more requested network protocols did not connect successfully.

    TCP/IP CP connected successfully.

NetBEUI CP reported error 733. Your computer and the remote computer could not agree on PPP control protocols.

You should not need the NetBEUI protocol.  Remove it from all computers and try again.
