OptiPlex 9010 suddenly does not recognize hard drive
So, i have a dell OptiPlex 9010 i believe it is from 2012 and all of the sudden windows has a bsod (and it is critical process died) and then when it turns back on it gives me the "Alert! no hard drive found" screen even though there is a hard drive inside i went out and bought another 2 TB HDD and same error i eventually took the motherboard and everything else out of the case and the forgot about it and then got bac to it in about 2-3 months and suddenly the old and new hdds work? i was very confused so i waited and mained it for at least a month and it was fine but the one day the same thing happened so i gave it the same strip and leave treatment and it worked i need help

Try replace sata data cable. If it is 9010 mt that has optical drive, verify in bios that odd is detected, then power off, unplug sata power/data cables from odd and plug those into hdd, test in bios whether hdd is detected.

AHCI vs Raid vs old hard drives. Drives die its not a matter of IF its a matter of when. This is a 11 year old model well past END OF LIFE END OF SUPPORT.
CMOS battery is not going to repair a physically bad hard drive.
Reinstall of windows 10 on a new hard drive however is relatively easy.

Starting by replacing an old battery (5+ yrs. old) in an old system is a good and cheap place to start. Bad batteries can cause boot problems.
I think speedstep nailed it with the HDD thing. It sounds like the old HDD may have came and went.
You mentioned new and old HDD's. Did you use one for boot and one for storage, or were they both boot in the PC at the same time? What OS are you using?

i already replaced the cmos battery 2 times and i should clarify that this unit is refurbished fron 2020 and the hdd is og but passed the inspection in 2020 but when the problem showed i went and got a new hdd at a pc store (new in box) and tested both and they were fine i tested the yesterday as of me posing this and both were fine also got new sata cables and that didn't fix anything i also tried different sata slots and same result nothing i got it to work for a bit but then failed again and i am using AHCI on a new segate barracuda from 2021 tested and verified working on another pc that does work (hp desktop) yes the Optiplex I'm taking about is an MT

Based on OP report it seems more likely a software issue than defective hardware. I would suggest enter bios and choose load default, save changes, exit. Also try clear cmos settings by jumper reset on motherboard.

Thats one of the first things i did it didn't work i flushed the settings twice and same result nothing

Try replace cmos battery with a brand new one.
