So a critical system file in my computer was corrupted, preventing it to boot into Windows. I had to format the drive, and reinstall the OS. I went through the Datasafe local backup to back all of my programs and such up, going into manual selection, and highlighting every executable and the files it needs to run, making up for quite a few gigabytes. Here's the kicker! It backs up successfully, and the computer reinstalls Windows. I go to restore the files I backed up, and it only restores the documents, music files, video files, and the like! My programs are nowhere to be found! I checked my backup disc, which had 60 GB of space remaining, when before, it had 150 GB remaining, so I knew that it backed up my programs somewhere! I rummage through the backup drive, looking around, but I couldn't find out where it was! How do I get my gigabytes of programs back on my computer? Keep in mind that the stuff it actually restored is about 20 gigabytes, if not less.
The backup that you have restored, would only restore the data like it has done in case of music, videos, pictures and documents. The restored programs need to be installed on the computer through the setup option again. For example, if you have backed up MS Office and try to restore it, the data in MS Office would get backed up but you won’t be able to use/open them, you would have to install MS Office back to use/open those files. Please reply for further questions.
Huh. Well how do I go about getting the stuff back through the setup option? I mean, I restored the files I had through the executable that's coupled with the backed-up files in the Emergency folder, since, for some reason, it's wanting me to get the premium version if I try restoring through the actual program through the Start menu.
Dell Data Safe Local Backup Basic version is not designed to take the back up of the entire system including applications. This function would be available in the Premium version. The Dell Data Safe Local Back Basic would only back up the common data. It is not designed to Back up the registry path for the applications to work.. Hence it will only back up the common files and restore them back to the computer as it has done. Please reply for further question.
