I've been cruising along for a year, no problems with my DVD player/burner. Then all of a sudden, I can't play DVDs or any other video from any source. The CD portion and music portion still works, but I get one of two messages when I try to play a DVD.
1)
Playback failed due to a problem with the video subsystem. Lowering your screen resolution or color depth may fix the problem
or
2) Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer.
Why would there suddenly be those messages when I've had no issues before??
Wahoo! You were right, the 'update' thing from Dell said it was the wrong version for my computer and it didn't work. But your link was right on....I've got video now on players, but am still getting the resolution thing when I try to use InterActual. Which I think I can get around by just using another media player.
It is possible the DVD issue is related to the Cineplayer date bug. Dell has released a patch located here. If you receive a message that the patch is not related to your version, please go ahead and try the patch anyway, usually it will work. However if it does not, or Cineplayer is not your Decoding software; please click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 7-5, article 15 and try one of the free decoding programs K-Lite or VLC. Either will innstall the necessary codecs which should correct your problem.
