iDRAC6 communication failure Problem
Hello,
I am getting this error while system booting: "idrac6 communication failure"
I've found these steps regarding to resolution of the problem:
I am afraiding perform step 4 because i am afriad it affect raid settings and that end up with data loss. So my question is would step 4 affect raid settings or not ?

@evansste if I'm hearing correctly he said that iDRAC part. if I assume the server R310 the below part numbers are for iDRAC. However if your server model is different than R310 please share with us and I can check it.

@DELL-Erman O After doing some searching, I'm pretty sure it's an express remote access card. I've been able to find some on Ebay. However, I'm not completely sure that the one I've found, is compatible with an R910. My server is an R910 server.

Hello,
The iDRAC6 Express in the Dell PowerEdge R910 is built into the system board—you do not need a separate card for it.
However, if you want iDRAC6 Enterprise features (like Virtual Console, Virtual Media, and a dedicated NIC port), then you do need to install an optional iDRAC6 Enterprise daughter card.
iDRAC6 Express (Default) > Built into system board
iDRAC6 Enterprise (Optional) >Requires Enterprise add-in card
Either part number Erman provided will work

J675T iDRAC 6 Enterprise PWA
You install it on the I/O card

@DELL-Charles R So it would seem that the Enterprise card is needed in order to have fan speed automation. Is that right?
My problem is EXACTLY like that shown in the YouTube video. The server works, but the fans are at maximum speed, all of the time.

Hello,
You can view fan speeds in the iDRAC but you can only change fan behavior in the System BOS under Power Management
(page 74 here) Fan Power and Performance Management
iDRAC6 Fan probe list does provide information on the fan speed for all fans in the system.

On that video they were replacing an iDRAC6 Express on a R710.
Your R910 has one already on the I/O board. It is not replaceable as it is integrated.
If you do have a bad Express you would need to replace the I/O board.

@DELL-Charles R Ultimately, I ended up doing what the guys did in the video, and it worked.
My R910 has an I/O card in one of the PCI slots. The card has a replaceable express remote access card. I bought a replacement express remote access card, off of Ebay, and swapped the broken one, on the I/O card.
Now, my machine works perfectly. The fans no longer run at top speed. Replacing the little express remote access card, fixed the problem, the same way that it does in the video. My only difference is that it was located on the I/O card, that I took out of the PCI slot.
