    gray31,
Hello! and welcome to the Dell forums.

Print this off so you can follow it

    Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then:
    1.  Click " Free Online Scan".
    2.  Click " Scan now, it's free".
It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down:
    1.  Select all available drives.
    2.  Check(tick) " Auto Clean".
    3.  Click " Scan".
When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:

Viewpoint Manager I recommend you uninstall this it monitors your activities

The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

    Run HiJackThis then:
    1.  Click " Config..."
    2.  Click " Misc Tools"
    3.  Click " Open Process manager"
    -
Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate ( if present) and click on ( highlight) each of the following:
        C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click " Kill process". Now, click " Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
    O16 - DPF: {084F552D-19EB-4668-9788-984CBC781A8F} (AsyncDownloader Class) - http://survey.otxresearch.com/Preloader.dll

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click " Fix checked".

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

    folders...
        C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
    -
Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're ' in use', try deleting them from " Safe Mode".

Then, as an added precaution, Go to Start > Run and type: cleanmgr and then click OK. Make sure the boxes for these are checked:
    Temporary Files
    Temporary Internet Files
    Recycle Bin

Post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes.

The main issue is the websites that I can no longer access, several of which I use for business purposes. Is there any other info that would help?

    Thanks

The scan did not find any viruses or trojans, several low risk cookies were removed. I have Norton anti-virus and have run spy-bot and lavasoft ad-aware. When attempting to access certain sites (CNN and College Board for example) it used to route to "true find", now it shows "page cannot be displayed". The net runs very slow for dsl.

    Thanks for your help!

Ok well lets see if there is anything lurking hidden on your system:

    • Download FindRK-files.zip from here. http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip
    • Extract the RK-files.zip folder from zip to your desktop. (it cannot be run from the zip)

    • Reboot into safe mode. Open the RK-files folder.
    • Double click the "rkfiles.bat" icon. It can take a while to run. Leave it to do its work.
    • When the black cmd.exe window closes reboot your computer in "Normal Mode".
    • A log file was created. It is found at C:\Log.txt.

    • Locate the log and add it to your next post.

    Hi gray,

Well theres nothing there that has to go, are you using any site blockers or parental controls or anything that blocks access to certain sites?
