Updated Graphics Driver not compatible with my games
Hi, lately I have been experiencing issues regarding updated graphics driver not being compatible with my games (Valorant, Fortnite, etc.) I contacted intel but they said that it is an issue from your manufacturer and so did Microsoft.
Laptop: Dell Vostro 14-3468 Graphics Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics 620
There was an old graphics driver on dell product support (now replaced with newer versions) which was compatible with my games I mentioned above. There were no screen freezes and fps drops in my games with this driver. Old driver that was available on dell website: Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver_JM8H7_WIN_22.20.16.4836_A05
But then dell product support updated that driver with this one: Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver_FY4NV_WIN_27.20.100.8854_A10
And now the latest version: Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver_GY13V_WIN_27.20.100.9664_A11
Both of these drivers are incompatible with my games (Valorant, fortnite) when i updated to these versions i started having fps drops and screen freezes and it got even more worse and extreme when i updated to latest version (GY13V).
It is like I literally can not play these games anymore. I tried to contact dell support or dell live chat but my warranty expired so i can not get either. Now idk what to do, if anyone have any suggestions why is this happening please let me know. Thank you.
What makes you think the drivers are the issue? There are two other things to consider:
This system is very low end for any type of gaming. Have there been game updates recently? It's not uncommon for updates to increase demands on system resources -- and being marginal to begin with, that's not going to improve performance on this system.
Since the system is several years old, has it had any internal maintenance (including a thorough cleaning and replacement of the thermal pads that sit between the heatsink and heat slug of the CPU)? If not, that's long overdue -- just a small amount of dust or dried out heatsink compound can raise temperatures and reduce performance. On a more capable system, that may not be very noticeable - but on a system that's barely qualified for any gaming, it may be what you're seeing.
I had that old graphics driver in my laptop from where i could reinstall it. The thing is that windows update kept updating those graphics driver automatically with other updates. So i had to reinstall the older version again for my games to run smoothly but recently i deleted some files and that old driver with it. Microsoft support told me that dell provided them with that driver (Drivers on windows update are of same version as provided on dell website). I have also tried using drivers from Intel Driver and Support Assistant and i am faced the same issues (screen freezes and fps drops). In short, whenever i reinstall my old driver back my games work fine but all other updated drivers are not compatible for games for whatever the reason. This is the issue i should have taken up with dell support but my warranty has expired and i can not find a way to get in contact with their support team.

That old driver is still available here. And Intel has a much newer driver available here.
