blank screen
started with low virtual memory message,cleaned cache then a message popped up asking if i wanted to start my
virus protection.i hit yes,i then got numerous popups and the screen went blank. tried a reboot by turning the cpu off
the dell logo flashes momentarily then goes blank. the screen is like a gray color not completely dark.have not been able
to get it to stay on longer than a few seconds.

This may be a malware issue. Can you recall the name of the program that was giving you the "numerous popups" and messages?
The malware needs to be stopped so your desktop will load and you can clean the infection. It will be easier for me to recommend the correct fix if I know which program needs to be suppressed.
