Dell Command Update 3.0 - install during OSD
I would like to install DCU 3.0 during our Bare Metal OSD deployment in the SCCM Task Sequence. The task appears to only partially install DCU. Some of the files are there, but there is no way to launch it... no icon in the start menu.
I can use the same installation command on an existing system and it will install completely with no problems. On a complete installation, there are two listings in Apps and Features:
- Dell Command | Update
- Dell Command | Update for Windows 10
When trying to install from a task sequence it only installs the "Dell Command | Update for Windows 10" entry. I can probably get it to install correctly if I put the install locally on each computer and put something into the RunOnce reg key to kick off the installation... but I don't want to have to do that if there's a better way.
Any ideas?

I just ran into this when running the install on clean install it fails, stop at services.
Checking the logs file I see this now "UnSupportedOSDetected = Aborting the installation process as the application is not supported on your operating system."
We are on v1809 here is looks like the tool will only support v1607 on update page its says required v1607 I bet you isn't hard coded to check the Win 10 and fail if it doesn't match https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/sln311129/dell-command-update?lang=en

I figured out the process to silently deploy version 3.0.1 with MDT and I'm posting it here in that it might help others out and maybe someone will have a solution for the one minor issue I have after it's installed.
Step 1: Installed Command Update on a regular Dell PC and then looked at the installation log file at the end of the installation wizard. In that log it should show the path to the MSI it extracted. Mine was "C:\WINDOWS\{D4373260-1185-49AC-993B-A31209FBD6CC}\DellCommandUpdateApp.msi"
Step 2: Copied that MSI to my deployment server and added a new MDT application and used the following install command "msiexec /i DellCommandUpdateApp.msi /passive /norestart"
Step 3: Run a computer through the MDT process and check that Command Update did get installed (we are using Windows 10 1809). Almost all of the time the program shortcut does not show up in the start menu, like a previous posted mentioned.
Step 4: Go to the Windows 10 "Apps & Features" settings, scroll down to "Dell Command | Update", click Advanced Options and then scroll down and click "Reset". The Start Menu shortcut should be restored without requiring a reinstall.
Now it would be great if I didn't have to do Step 4 so if anyone has any ideas how to clean it up through the MDT process it would be appreciated.

When we get a new model PC for the first time, lets say an Optiplex 5060... we boot into audit mode and run this decrapifier power shell script to clean it up. Gets as close to an LTSC install as you can without really being Enterprise LTSC.
We have the same issue where Dell Command Update 3.0 will show installed but there isn't any way to launch it. After a computer is sysprep'd and imaged it does show as an installed program, and if you go to install it again it thinks its installed because it asks to do a repair on it. I do that repair and after a reboot it shows in the start menu. Too much manual intervention for deploying machines. The older versions that came with Optiplex 5050, 5040's and earlier just worked. I wish they would go back to the older design. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Windows 10 users should be using Dell Command 4.1.

Dell Command Configure looks like its a way to customize BIOS settings in one spot, then deploy those BIOS settings across other Dell computers.
The program we are all talking about is Dell Command Update, which scans the system and keeps it up to date with the latest drivers and BIOS updates all from one central screen, rather than going out to dell's website, entering the service tag and then trying to figure out and compare what versions you have installed now, and what versions are newer on the site, downloading them all manually and executing them one by one.
I just imaged an Optiplex 5060 with Windows 10 1809 and before the sysprep Dell Command Update 3.0.1 was in the start menu and working, and now after the sysprep and deploy, Dell Command Update is NOWHERE in the start menu, but if I do a RUN appwiz.cpl, I see Dell Command | Update for Windows 10 Installed on 4/29/2019 25.7 MB 3.0.1. However there is absolutely NO WAY to execute this program.

2.4 is newer than 2.3.
It ran and did a search, but did not find the bios update from 1.2.22 to 1.3.4. I had to download and run that manually.

Ok, this is over my head, however, this is basically a User to user forum, while some Dell mods are here this could be likely over there heads too. If this were my issue I would be dealing with Dell Business support that group of techs have access to the software engineers. I have dealt with them on one issue, it took 3 tries until I got to the right tech, who actually understood how the system worked and we solved the issue.
i might also bring this to the Windows Ten Forum there are some very switched on people over there that are looking for challenges, might be able to help.
