Internet Explorer Error

I received my Vostro 1000 a few days ago, and 8 out of 10 times when I start Internet Explorer 6 I receive the "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" message.  The show details link provides me with this information:

AppName: iexplore.exe

AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180

ModName: urlmon.dll

Any information/help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Same thing happened to me, and after error-reporting a few times MS automatically sent me to this site:

Just as a cross-check, looks like that solved the problem for some others:

Though I'll confess, I haven't fixed it yet - mine's much more intermittent and I've got a pretty high glitch tolerance.  There's also the option of rolling back updates until they're patched up, though obviously there's an inherent risk in that.

Looks like they did it again recently, too.

    1. Run disk cleanup and clean out both of your "Temp" folders.

    3. Then, Open IE and go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab   scroll down and Tick "emply temp internet files folder when browser is closed"
    Hit OK.

I do occasionally get this error no matter what I do, usually happens when I have numerous tabs open. Hopefully SP1 will cure it.

By the way you should have IE7 on that new system.

Thank you, Alexandra and Mombodog.  I tried resetting defaults and emptying temp files folders and this was unsuccessful.  I will try the hotfix next and hope that that works.  Thanks again.

By the way the new systems is running Windows XP, I'm not a big fan of VISTA so I opted for XP with IE 6.
