No backup facility

I dont seem to have a backup facility on Windows ME.  I have just got a new PC with Windows XP and want to transfer all my files over.  How can I get around this problem and does anyone know why I dont have a backup option in system tools

    Sthorn36,

It doesn't matter. The format of MS Backup in Windows ME is not compatible with that in Windows XP, so even if you were able to back up your files in ME you would not be able to restore them on XP. See this for your options.

i use norton ghost. when you consider the time and effort used to reload a drive (there is such a thing called opportunity cost), it is well worth the cost of another drive and the software. i just installed the program, created a floppy disk, put in the other drive, insert the program floppy and bam i have an exact copied drive,i removed the copy and put it away for safe keeping. there is also a free? program called xxcopy at  http://www.xxcopy.com/download/xxcopy.zip

    here is the index page

    http://www.xxcopy.com/index.htm

for me the program worked great, norton clone too because the drive to be copied to can have info on it or not, you just pick and choose.

    thanks, brian
