I am in the process of re-installing Win XP on a Dell Dimension 4400. After booting from the Win XP CD and entering into setup I chose (R) to repair the current WINXP software, I have gotten through the first phases.

Collecting Information, Dynamic Update and Preparing installation:

In the process of installing windows, I received an error message. The install stopped at a point where it stated"The file 'asms' is needed on Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM. Type the path where the file is located. (E:\i386) I have the Win XP CD in the correct drive and it will not read it. I also took the WinXP CD to another computer and copied the "i386" folder where the 'asms' file is located and put that disk in my "D" drive and can not get the install to continue. Now I am stuck in the middle of setup unable to continue. Any ideas? Right now I don't think it will even let me go back. When I cancel out and look at the setup log it states:Setup was unable to start tabsrv because of the following error. OpenService(tabsrv) returned error 1060 (424)
