Why does it take soooo long for my system to shut down?

 

It dosen't do this every time.  If I have a short login in session and only use a few applications, it is pretty smooth, but if I have trouble with any application, like if an application freezes and becomes "not responding"  and I have to close it with the task manager, then it takes the system about 15 minutes to do a shutdown.  I'm not willing to wait this absurd ammount of time, so I just cut the power now and restart.

 

Also, sometimes cntrl/alt/delete fails to bring up the task manager when a program is seized, and this combination never succeeds in a soft boot with win xp.  What gives?

 

I never had this problem with windows 98.

 

I just bought this new system fro Dell about a month ago.  Kinda bummed about it.
