System melt down
I was forced to reinstall Windows 98SE and now when I boot up I get an error message that states NAV Auto Protect is unable start. SYMEVNT.386is not loaded. You may need to reinstall Norton Antivirus to correct the problem. Once I do get to the Windows 98 screen, I get another error message "spool32" and the computer freezes. Nothing I have tried can get windows to start. If I could get to the desktop I would uninstall Norton reinstall 98SE again then reload Norton. Is there anything that anyone is aware of to overcome these problems.

A dirty install of Windows 98 (either edition) over itself usually results in an unstable system. Your best bet is to use your emergency boot diskette to format your C:\ partition then do a clean install of Windows 98.

If you wish to partition the drive you will need to do that before formatting, using FDISK (instructions here). After the partitions are set, format C:\ by booting to the DOS prompt and entering format c: /s (the /s switch loads the system files as a part of the formatting process).

Thanks for the guidance. I was worried that was going to be my only option and it's something that I have never done. Do I just type "format" at the C: dos prompt?? Will there be options for partioning the C drive?
