The UP2516D has 2 HDMI inputs, 1 DisplayPort input, and 1 mini-DisplayPort input, so which inputs you use depends upon what video outputs are available on the XPS 8700 and the Precision 3640. You can use the UP2516D's On-Screen Display (OSD) menu to select the Input Source.

The video card is AMD Radeon (TM) R9 200 Series.

I used the two cables that came with the screen - The mDP and the USB 3 upstream cable for the UP2716D and Precision 3640. Just wondering would another USB 3 upstream cable work?

@JamesBoh The USB3 upstream cable does not carry video signals. It appears your XPS 8700 has DVI-I (Dual Link), DVI-D (Dual Link), HDMI. and DisplayPort. You should use either the HDMI or the DisplayPort connections.

Which is better - the HDMI or the DisplayPort?

@JamesBohan  Assuming your monitor is HDMI 1.4 (pretty sure) and DisplayPort 1.2 (not so sure), DisplayPort 1.2 has higher maximum bandwidth. Also, DisplayPort (DP) 1.2 supports video resolutions up to 3840x2160 @ 60 Hz (4K) whereas HDMI 1.4 only supports that same resolution as DP 1.2 but only at 30 Hz. For your monitor, it does not matter since it cannot achieve that resolution.

I have a DP cable and it works lovely. The only problem I have now is that I can't get the mouse and keyboard to work on the XPS8700. I have the mouse and keyboard plugged into the side of the screen.
